Northam
Northham is approximately an hour’s drive from Perth city, and is therefore a good destination for day or weekender trips.
The Avon River is the main attraction of Northam, offering both nice views and a relaxing atmosphere. The Avon Descent held in August every year, is a unique sporting event that attracts competitors and spectators from all over the world. Competitors challenge the Avon and Swan rivers in a variety of paddle and power craft in an exciting two-day time trial over 134 gruelling kilometres.
Much wildlife, mainly in the form of birds, is found in Northham and white swans, found nowhere else in Western Australia, are common in Northam.
The Northam Heritage Trail includes a town walk 2 kilometers as well as a four kilometer town drive, both desgned to help visitors experience Northam’s heritage
Northam’s gift shops contain many souvenirs and other interesting arts and crafts.
